Essie Luxe Nail Polish Collection

If you follow me on twitter @theotherdress you will know that I’m always raving on about my love for Essie nail polishes.  If I do a good job of my application; two coats finished off with Seche Vite top coat, it will last me a good week.

Essie have just launched their ‘Luxe Nail Polish Collection’, a selection of dazzling top coats to enhance your polish colour.  They are super glitzy and come in pink, gold, white, silver and blue.  As my Essie collection is already huge I limited myself to purchasing just the one (for the moment!).  I went for  ‘a cut above’, which is baby pink flecks of glitter.

Essie 'a cut above' Luxe top coat and 'angora cardi' pink nail polish

Essie’s ‘a cut above’ looks amazing over most colours but I especially love it over the plum red ‘angora cardi.

These would make perfect Christmas gifts wrapped up in with a little bow!

Glossybox November 2013 – The Glossy Wishlist

I’m still absolutely loving receiving my Glossybox every month. November’s one is good, but what I’m really looking forward to is next months. Please let it be Christmas themed!!

The only thing that offended me in this month’s beauty box was the awful organza bag the Vichy samples came in. Why oh why!!!

So here’s what I got this month …..

Vichy, Emite Makeup, Elegant Touch, Connock London and Yves Rocher

Glossybox Magazine November 2013

Vichy – Idealia Life Serum 3x3ml samples

Full Size £29.50 for 30ml

Vichy is a great skincare brand and I couldn’t wait to try this serum. The Idelia life serum claims to improve the appearance of your skins quality, and protect from stress, pollution and an unbalanced diet. The serum is a gorgeous consistency and smells really good. I think you would have to purchase the product and use for a month to really see the effects, but nice to have a little try.

Emite Make Up – Micronized Eyeshadow in Dams

£16.80 for 1.48g

Emite Micronized Eyeshadow is free from oil, nickel, parabens, perfume, and is great for contact lens wearers or sensitive eyes. I was quite excited when I found this product in my Glossybox, as at nearly £17 full price, I class this as a luxury makeup item. The colour is identical to Mac’s ‘Shroom’ but is really crumbly and gave really bad fall down. I wouldn’t recommend purchasing this over Mac eyeshadow unless regular eyeshadow’s cause you sensitivity.

Yves Rocher France – Hand Cream

Full Size £1.95 for 75ml

Hand cream is an essential for winter and I welcomed this product in my November Glossybox. It has a light consistency and smells beautiful of chocolate and raspberry.

Elegant Touch – Nail Polish Remover Pads

Full Size £2 for 20 pads

These nail polish remover pads from Elegant Touch are amazing for throwing in your bag when travelling. I am never ever without painted nails, so normally use a bottle of polish remover, but these will be really handy.

Connock London – Kukui Eau de Parfum

£75 for 100ml

Connock London isn’t a fragrance brand I had heard of before, but I love discovering new perfumes. This fragrance has a sultry woody base of sandalwood, with floral top notes. I like it, but I don’t love it. I feel like the smell is a bit too mature for me (more for an older lady without being rude!).

Glossybox – £10 plus £2.95 p&p

MUJI Beauty Storage

Since I’ve been blogging, my makeup collection has grown and grown.  My makeup bag was overflowing and it felt like I had products everywhere!  Lots of the big beauty bloggers had been posting pictures and talking a lot about MUJI storage so I decided to give it a go.

MUJI acrylic storage two draw and 2 draw flip lid. Beauty storage

MUJI offer really useful acrylic storage suitable for makeup, jewellery and other small dressing table/desk products.  They are stackable, so if your collection grows even more you can add to it later.

I purchased one of the wide 2 draw boxes and one of the wide 2 draw with flip lid which fits all of my current cosmetics and nail polishes perfectly.  I cannot recommend these boxes more!  I can find all my products much easier, and I’ve put all my everyday makeup in the top flip lid so they are really easy to access.

The MUJI storage is good value and they were delivered to the UK within about 3 working days.

October Favourites

October went as quick as a flash, and here we are approaching the festive season.  I feel like I’ve had the Christmas excitement way too early this year!  I must stop talking about it until December!

So here are the products I’ve been loving in October:

Katy Perry - Killer Queen Fragrance, Essie - Good as Gold, Moroccanoil treatment and L'Oreal Collection Privee by Frieda
Katy Perry – Killer Queen Fragrance, Essie – Good as Gold, Moroccanoil treatment and L’Oreal Collection Privee by Frieda

Katy Perry Killer Queen

I’m not the biggest Katy Perry fan, so would never have picked this up to try in the shops.  I had a little sample in my October Glossybox  and loved it instantly.  It’s a dark, musky, floral fragrance and is really long lasting.  I like to go for something light and fruity in the summer, so this Katy Perry fragrance is perfect for winter.  I love the almost dagger shape of the bottle and the gold finish   There’s not much else to say, but go and have a sniff!

Katy Perry Killer Queen 100ml £30.00

Essie Metallic Collection Good as Gold

I love love love Essie Nail Polishes.  They are long lasting and really easy to apply.  The metallic collection is limited edition and the colours are amazing!  Essie’s Good as Gold applies really strong and looks perfect with two coats.  Maybe a bit festive for October, so something I will definitely be wearing into December.  I topped it with Seche Vite to give it a really glossy finish.

Essie Metallic Collection Good as Gold £7.99

L’Oreal Color Riche Collection Privée Freida Mauve Tint

The L’Oreal Color Riche Collection Privée are are limited edition range of nude lipsticks tailor made to suit every skin tone.  Now I don’t have the same skin tone as Freida Pinto, but couldn’t resist this shimmery nude mauve shade.  The lipsticks are really wearable colours and are very moisturising.  They show up quite sheer, so you need to build up to get a good colour.  I also love the super pink Doutzen Kroes shade, and will definitely be purchasing a few more!

L'Oreal Collection Privee lipstick, Freida Pinto: Barely Parma

L’Oreal Color Riche Collection Prive Freida Mauve Tint £8.19

Moroccanoil Oil Treatment

I have been battling with my hair frizz for a while, and had many people tell me to try Moroccan Oil.  I won’t say this has fixed the problem, but it has definitely made an improvement.  It leaves your hair really soft and smooth and really reduced blow drying time.  The scent is really subtle and it’s easy to apply through your hair.

Moroccanoil Oil Treatment 25ml £13.45

My Ultimate Beauty Advent Calendar

I love the idea of the beauty advent calendars that I keep hearing about, like the Benefit, Selfridges and Boots ones.  They are quite pricey, but if you don’t like chocolate and fancy a treat, great!

I remember a friend telling me about her parents at Christmas.  Every year her father buys her mother a charm bracelet, and fills 24 boxes with charms for her to open every day. Wow! What a romantic guy!

If I could create the ultimate beauty advent calendar for you, with a treat for 24 days, here’s what would be hidden behind those doors:

What items would you love to see in a beauty advent calendar?

If you had a spare £200…

My friend recently won a competition, and the prize was £200 gift card for ANY chosen shop.  How exciting!  I made lots of suggestions and urged her to treat herself, but in the end she opted for a DIY store so she could make some home improvements.  What!?!?!?

I’m sure you can relate to my disappointment on behalf of said friend, who I believe should have splurged it all on a handbag or glam pair of shoes.  Anyway, when she was asking for my advice initially, it was quite enjoyable to think about what I would do if it were mine.

After toying with my imaginary gift card, I settled for Topshop.  I would just like to add that at no point did a DIY/supermarket/home textiles store cross my mind as an option.

So here’s what I would buy from Topshop….

Leaf Embellished Vest £40.00

Topshop Leaf Embellished Vest

Floral Jaquard PJ Trousers £38.00

Topshop Floral Jaquard PJ Trousers

Advance Cut Out Western Boots £68.00

Flat Stud Purse £30.00

Black Stone Collar £7.50

TOpshop black stone collar necklace

Lips in Wicked £8.00

Topshop Lips in Wicked

Nails in Circus £6.00

If you won a £200 gift card for anywhere, where would you choose and what would you buy?

Glossybox October 2013 – Dark Romance

Glossybox always give a few little hints throughout the month, and I was excited when I heard the theme was ‘dark romance’.  Lots of people were convinced we were going to get an on trend plum lipstick, so I was a tad disappointed when I opened the box.

Although there are a few good items, they don’t seem to relate to the theme at all.  Sort it out Glossybox!

So here’s what I got this month …..

Glossybox October 2013

MeMeMe – Cherub’s Blush – Cheek & Lip Tint

Full Size £5.50 for 12ml

I’ve never been a fan of lip and cheek tints.  I think a powder blush is much more blendable and I find the stains hard to remove if you over do it.  I’m definitely not brave enough to put this all over my face!

Katy Perry – Killer Queen Fragrance

£29.50 for 50ml

I love this new fragrance from Katy Perry and the fruity floral fragrance is very long lasting.  This is something I would wear for the evening, and one small spray gave a good strong fragrance.

Monu – Illuminating Primer

£24.95 for 50ml

I’ve been wanting to try out a primer for a while and look forward to trying out this one.  I’ve had a little test and it has a nice fragrance and is very moisturising.  Will get back to you on how this one works with foundation.

Premae – Multi-Vit Smoothie Serum

£22.50 for 50ml

Premae is the ‘world’s first allergen-free brand’  and anything they produce is more than kind to your skin.  This serum is fragrance fee and should be used before moisturising.  My skincare routine is very basic so a serum is something I usually skip.  As it’s a ‘kind to skin’ product I will give it a go and see if it makes an improvement.

Eva Cosmetics – Mystic Diamond Argon Oil

£22.70 for 100ml

If you follow me on twitter you will know that I’m always complaining about my frizzy hair.  I have just ordered some Moroccan Oil which has been recommended to me, so in the mean time I will give this argon oil a try.  I currently use a Tresseme argon oil so will see how this one compares.

Glossybox – £10 plus £2.95 p&p

September Favourites

Yet again, another month that has flown by! September is probably my favourite month of the year, as we say goodbye to summer and look forward to snuggling up with winter.  I got to visit Paris for the first time this month and also had a little trip to Brighton, so I’ve had an action packed September.

Essie, sephora, lucky charms, mac, be a bombshell, rimmel and soap & glory
L – R: Sephora Bronzer, Essie Nail Polish, Lucky Charms Cereal, Mac Eye Shadow, Be a Bombshell Eyeliner, Rimmel Concealer and Soap & Glory Gloss Stick.

So here’s what I’ve been loving this month:

Essie –  Nail Polish in Fiji & Mint Candy Apple

Essie Fiji and Mint Candy Apple
L- R: Essie Nail Polish in Fiji and Mint Candy Apple

I tried Essie nail polish for the first time a couple of months ago, when I first purchased Essie’s ‘Fiji’.  It’s a soft pretty pink that’s really girly.  For the first time in my life, I actually used a whole nail polish until it was empty.  I normally buy a colour, use it for a while, then it gets replaced with a new colour when I get bored.  But I loved Fiji so much that I couldn’t get it off my nails!  So this Fiji is a brand new bottle, bought along with Essie’s ‘Mint Candy Apple’.  I didn’t think I could find a colour I loved as much as ‘Fiji’ but ‘Mint Candy Apple’ comes really close.  It’s a soft minty green and I have had so many compliments.

 Essie Nail Polish £7.99

Sephora – Shimmering Bronzing Powder in  Medium

I picked up this Sephora bronzer when I visited Paris this September.  I loved the warmth of the shades and the compact also includes a mirror in the lid.  I had been waiting to try out some Sephora products for a while, so picked up a few different bits, but I especially love how natural this bronzer looks.

Sephora Shimmering Bronzing Powder 14.50 €

Be a Bombshell Cosmetics – Eyeliner in Onyx

I had this felt tip style eyeliner from Be a Bombshell in my September Glossybox.  I have been using gel eyeliner with a brush for a while, so was keen to try the pen style eyeliners again.  This one is great, as it applies a clean smooth line and dries quickly.  It doesn’t smudge or move all day, and comes off with one sweep of makeup remover.

 Be a Bombshell Eyeliner $14

Mac – Eye Shadow in Shroom (Satin)

I love Mac eye shadows.  They have great pigmentation, minimal fall out and seem to last forever.  I love a light eye shadow shade, so thought I would try something a bit shimmery this time.  It’s similar to Mac’s Naked Lunch, but is a gorgeous mushroom colour.  It can be blended with any colour, but looks especially nice with a dark brown.

 Mac Eye Shadow £12.50

Soap & Glory – Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Bashful

I included the Soap & Glory Gloss Stick in ‘Raplumzel’ in my August favourites, but I have been using the shade ‘Bashful’ a little more this month.  ‘Bashful’ is a sugary sweet candy pink, but looks really natural when applied lightly.  These Gloss sticks from Soap and Glory are so easy to apply, and I love how hydrating they make your lips feel.  When I am brave enough I will purchase the bright red shade!

Soap and Glory Gloss Stick £8.00

Soap and glory bashful, be a bombshell eyeliner and mac eye shadown in shroom
Top – bottom: Soap and Glory Gloss Stick in Bashful, Be a Bombshell Eyeliner in Onyx and Mac Eye Shadow in Shroom

Rimmel – Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory

My collection 200 concealer had become a little too dark for my skin tone, so I decided to try out a different concealer.  I have the Rimmel ‘Wake Me Up’ foundation which works great, so I decided to try out the concealer.  It’s really moisturising and gives a lovely glow to your skin.  It’s quick and easy to apply and blends in well with a fluffy brush.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer £5.49

 Lucky Charms Cereal Pot

I thought I would add in this cheeky little pot of Lucky Charms to my September favourites, as September is my birthday month.  Every birthday I get given one of these pots which I indulge on the morning of my birthday!  I would happily eat this cereal every single day but my teeth would probably fall out.  I look forward to my next bowl next year!

Lucky Charms Cereal Pot £1.50

Sephora Paris Shopping Trip

I was so excited to visit Paris this September, and especially to go shopping on Champs-Élysées.  The shops there are incredible and it was my first time visiting a Sephora.  We happened to go there on a Saturday, which was a BIG mistake as it was very busy and was boiling hot that day.

Sephora Paris store front

When I was in Sephora, all I could think was this is like the Disney Store of makeup! It was crazy in there, and filled to the brim with all the luxury makeup brands you can think of.  I managed to fight my way through the crowds and grab a few bits.  I decided to try out a few of the Sephora own brand products as you can’t get them in the UK (Sephora is available online) and they looked like great products.

Sephora Fragrance stand

The Sephora colour selection was almost as vast as Mac, and you can put together palettes.  In the end I settled for a gorgeous shimmering bronzing powder, a pink lip pencil and a nude eye shadow palette.  I love the packaging of the palette,s and both the bronzer and the eye shadows give off a beautiful natural look.  The staff threw in a few perfume and moisturiser samples, along with a cute little bracelet which was a bonus.
